Mexico hosts its first Academy for Rhythmic Gymnastics
2014-06-11
sonhos.
The Mexican Gymnastics Federation hosted a FIG Level 1 Academy for Rhythmic Gymnastics in the seaside city of Guadalajara during the first week of June 2014.
All of the theory and technical lectures were held at the Nissan Gymnastics Stadium which hosted the Gymnastics competitions at the 2011 Pan American Games. It was the third FIG Academy hosted by Mexico and the 27th for Rhythmic Gymnastics.
Nineteen coaches representing three FIG member federations attended – Brazil, Spain andMexico.
Two of the course leaders came directly from an Academy that they had taught in Colombia. Andrea João of Brazil served as FIG course leader. She is a sport science professor, President of the Gymnastics federation for the state of Rio de Janeiro and has been a frequent course leader and expert for the FIG Academy programme. She taught all of the theory lectures. Two experts came from Europe to teach all of the technical lectures. Nadya Alexandrova of Great Britain also came directly from Colombia. She is a member of the Academy Working Group for Rhythmic Gymnastics. The third expert was Helena Dias from Portugal who has been a frequent Academy lecturer.
The examination process consisted of a theory examination and two practical examinations – the construction of a mini-routine and the presentation of a Rhythmic Gymnastics skill. There was quite a large range of results among the participants without very high marks. The highest mark of 75% overall was achieved by Janet Sharai Castañon Ramirez of Mexico. She was followed closely by two other Mexican coaches, Dulce Rosario Hernandez Marquez and Claudia Ramos Mendez.
We thank the Mexican Gymnastics Federation and its President for hosting this Academy so professionally and assuring its success. Thanks go to Naomi Valenzowho did all of the preliminary and on-site organisation for the Academy.
Another FIG Academy in Spanish America finished on Monday. It was a Level 2 Trampoline Academy in Colombia. And yet another Academy will finish on Wednesday – a Level 1 Academy for Men’s Artistic Gymnastics in Saudi Arabia.
The FIG Academy programme continues next week with a Level 3 Academy for Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics in Dominican Republic. In addition, the FIG will continue with its educational programmes with efforts to improve musicality and artistry by conducting a seminar to be held later this month for all coaches and judges at the Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships in Cancun, Mexico.
